LOOMING(2021) VIDEO INSTALLATION
Looming is a two channel video installation created at the invitation of Melissa Keys, Curator, Buxton Contemporary, Melbourne, for the exhibition ‘This is a Poem’.
The brief for the work was to create a ‘poem’ in response to one of the works contained in the Buxton Contemporary collection, selecting Pat Brassington’s work ‘Neck’.
Artist statement:
‘Neck’ reminds us of the presence of things that lurk in the shadows, out of our line of sight. Presences that are felt but unseen. Always there. As Brassington’s figure leans forward and away, so does the dancer. With gestures that enfold our imaginings, contemplations and fears, the dancer confronts the presence of the cameras that occupy the space around her - every-present and looming out of sight.
